We provide sewing machines and all necessary tools, though you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer. The machine we’ll be using is the Brother Sewing & Quilting Machine XR3774.

With the closing of JoAnne’s you may be wondering where else you can buy fabric by the yard.

Particularly cotton & flannel, here are some options:

 

  • Hobby Lobby – They mark their fabrics 30% off every couple of weeks so watch for the sales
  • Michaels – They are starting to carry an assortment of cottons & flannel (small inventory but I think that will change over time) 

Here are some online options:

  1. Hancocks of Paducah – nice selection of quilting cottons priced from $4.99 – 7.99
  2. Fabric & Fun – $5.00 – 8.00 a yard
  3. Fabric Shack – Fabric listed by theme; can purchase in ¼-yard increments. Great selection.
  4. Jordan Fabrics – A little pricey but beautiful fabrics
  5. My Favorite Quilt Shop – Huge selection, little pricey
  6. Cotton Pickins – You can shop by color, little pricey but can find sales
  7. Michaels.com – When I checked, they had over 8,000 fabrics to choose from.

*When purchasing online, here are a few things to keep in mind:

– most online stores only allow you to purchase by the yard
– watch out for shipping costs, it can be pricey
– check shipping dates vs. class dates

 

It would be a disappointment if your fabric did not get here in time for class.

There is a maximum of 6 people per class, with a minimum of 2. This is a home-based business, and the address will be provided after you sign up. We are located just off Exit 33 on Highway 77.

Minimum age to take a class is 9. Because of the machines and tools we use please don’t sign your child up unless they are 9.

If you choose to bring your own tools, you will need the following::

  • Shears (scissors just for cutting fabric)
  • Straight pins
  • Pin cushion
  • Ruler
  • Tracing wheel & paper
  • Fabric marker or fabric chalk
  • Seam ripper
  • Tape measure

* You can also purchase tools from Walmart, Hobby Lobby, or Amazon.

Some projects will require you to purchase your own fabric, thread, and possibly other supplies. This info can be found under the description of each project.

Cancelation policy: If you can not attend class we need a 48 hour notice in order to refund your money. Anything less than 48 hours, you will receive class credit to use on a future class. If you are a “no show”, you forfeit a reimbursement of any kind. If we have to cancel for any reason, you will receive a full refund.

You will be required to sign a sewing waiver in order to take a class. You can find the waiver here. Please bring it with you to class.


Private and Small Group Private

 

So, you’re thinking about learning to sew? Going for private or small group private lessons is pretty awesome, seriously. Instead of getting lost in a big class, you get all the instructor’s attention, which means they can totally tailor everything to your pace and what you need to work on. It’s super easy to ask questions, even the “dumb” ones, because it’s just you or maybe a couple of your buddies, so no pressure.


How it works:

The first meeting we will do at Hobby Lobby. There we will discuss patterns and fabric and notions. At this meeting you’ll chose your pattern – very simple pattern – and possibly fabric or use one of the other vendors I mention on this page to get your fabric. If you are wanting to make clothing you will need to come to this meeting with body measurements in hand. (hips, waist, and bust measurements) This meeting will take about an hour. After which you can divide the remaining 6 hours up as you choose. If for some reason you do not finish your project with in the allotted time – no worries. We will work it out for you to finish.


Cost:

  • Private: $320 for 7 hours

  • Small Group Private: $190 each
    (Does not include pattern/fabric/supplies)

Sewing Parties

 

Ditch the usual party plans and get creative with a super fun sewing party! It’s the perfect way to hang out with your crew, learn a new skill, and make something awesome—whether it’s for a birthday party (kids or adults), a bachelorette bash, team-building day, or a church group.

 

These parties last up to three hours (including setup and cleanup if you bring food). And yes—you can bring food! There’s even a fridge available for cold items.

 

The goal isn’t to turn you into a sewing pro overnight, but to get you comfortable with the basics so you can make something cute, like:

 

Adults: a stylish glasses case or mini wallet (Fabric selection will vary)

 

Kids: a fun bookmark or hair scrunchie (Fabric selection will vary)

 

So, if you’re looking for a creative, hands-on way to celebrate or just spend time together, a Sewing Party is definitely the stitch you’ve been looking for!

 

Cost:

 

Adults: $50 per person

 

Kids: $45 per person
(All fabric and supplies included.)
